Learning Objectives:

By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:

  1. Explain why a well-constructed research title is essential for thesis credibility, IRB submission, and database discoverability
  2. Identify the five structural components of a research title — population, variable, outcome, study design, and setting — and decide which to include for a given study
  3. Distinguish between declarative, descriptive, interrogative, and compound title formats and select the appropriate type for a postgraduate thesis
  4. Apply a structured framework (PICO-derived or PVO) to construct a research title from a given research question
  5. Evaluate research titles against established criteria — specificity, length, jargon, and design-claim alignment
  6. Revise a weak or misleading title into a precise, publishable-quality research title
