Research Methodology and Biostatistics for Postgraduate Residents in Basic Sciences and Paraclinical Sciences

Learning Objectives:

  • Navigate Excel interface and manage datasets effectively
  • Perform basic and intermediate descriptive statistical analyses using Excel formulas and functions
  • Conduct simple inferential statistical tests using Excel’s Analysis ToolPak
  • Design clear tables and informative graphs to display research data

Content:

  • Excel data entry, cleaning, and worksheet management
  • Key statistical functions: AVERAGE, MEDIAN, STDEV, COUNTIF
  • Using Analysis ToolPak add-in for hypothesis tests: t-tests (one-sample, two-sample), F-tests, ANOVA, and Chi-square tests
  • Linear regression and binary logistic regression.
  • Non-parametric alternatives: Mann-Whitney, Kruskal-Wallis, Friedman.
  • Creating and formatting graphs: bar charts, histograms, scatter plots
  • Tips for maintaining data integrity and avoiding common mistakes
  • Exporting data and results for use in thesis writing and presentations
