Course Overview
This course is designed for postgraduate residents pursuing advanced degrees in the Faculty of Basic and Paraclinical Sciences. The curriculum integrates advanced research methodology, and systematic thesis development to prepare residents for successful completion of their thesis requirements and future academic careers.
What Will You Learn?
- Formulate clear, testable research questions aligned with basic and paraclinical sciences and assess feasibility within available resources.
- Conduct comprehensive literature reviews using biomedical databases and synthesize existing knowledge to identify research gaps.
- Design studies with appropriate experimental or observational designs, adequate sample sizes, and proper controls.
- Navigate ethical and regulatory requirements by preparing complete IRB applications and obtaining necessary approvals before data collection.
- Apply appropriate biostatistical methods including sample size calculation, hypothesis testing, and advanced statistical analyses relevant to thesis research.
- Utilize statistical software proficiently (Excel, SPSS and/ or R) for data management, analysis, and creation of publication-quality tables and figures.
- Present statistical results accurately with appropriate interpretation, acknowledging limitations and drawing evidence-based conclusions.
- Write a complete master's thesis following institutional format requirements with well-organized chapters including introduction, literature review, methodology, results, discussion, and conclusions.
- Convert thesis into journal manuscripts suitable for submission to peer-reviewed journals.
